Across the pond in the US, Kraft Company markets its Velveeta Shells Mac & Cheese as ‘ready in 3.5 minutes’. However, Amanda Ramirez from Florida claims that the time advertised is incorrect as it does not account for preparation time (opening the lid and pouch, adding water and stirring).
Ramirez filed a lawsuit in a court in Florida last month. Her lawyer claimed she paid more for the product than she would have had she known the truth. The lawsuit asks Kraft Company to ‘cease its deceptive advertising’ and be made to ‘engage in a corrective advertising campaign’.
This recent lawsuit serves as a reminder to brands to take care with marketing communications and ensure that customers are not misled, the alternative is being faced with a multi-million pound fine! I know what I would prefer!
